Interaction and Intelligence
The theme "Interaction and Intelligence" tackles the methods and tools for a feedback
scheme through services designed to interact in an intelligent way: this involves
both the study and implementation of dedicated algorithms and tools.
Three main directions have been identified:
-
The RIMH group focuses on the study of multimodal interaction
for the environment feedback for people with handicap or limited locomotion capabilities,
and especially the study of textual (or language) input, emotion generation and ambient control.
-
Group SAMSARA's aim is to build
synthetic characters that can communicate with the user in a human-like way.
This supposes to have a better understanding of the inherent mechanisms of sensorimotor control
for communication gestures and skilled motion, as well as to build animation methods to embody
the virtual character.
-
The APRIM group aims at studying and implementing natural
access and efficient management for large document databases.
We focus on heterogeneous distributed databases with multimedia information.
This domain deals not only with efficient indexing strategies, but also with multimedia search
in a very large document repository (such as the World-Wide Web).
With tight collaboration with the other VALORIA groups, these three topics combine to build
an ambient intelligence that provides interaction and services, taking into account
the human behaviour.
